George Washington Memorial Parkway Roadway Construction Project - GWMP 934(1) Minnehaha Creek Pedestrian Bridge (Glen Echo)
Description:
The project consists of stabilization of the erosion under the Minnehaha Creek Pedestrian Bridge that connects the Clara Barton National Historic Site Parking Area with Glen Echo Park. Work includes stabilizing the stream bank of the upstream approach to the northern bridge pier to prevent further erosion, protecting the footing of the bridge pier from further erosion and scour, and repairing the bridge pier. Other miscellaneous work includes removing boulders from within the stream to help redirect the stream away from the eroding bank and bridge pier.
Traffic Control / Affects to Public:
The pedestrian bridge will be open to pedestrian traffic at all times. The available walkway widths may be reduced to allow for equipment and material access to the work site. Other potential affects to the public include the closure of portions of the parking area to allow the Contractor access to the work site as well as equipment and material storage.
Design/Construction Schedule:
This project was awarded on June 2007, and is currently under construction. Construction is expected to be completed in November 2007.
George Washington Memorial Parkway Roadway Construction Project - GWMP 1A101 - Pimmit Run
Description:
The project consists of stabilization of the erosion under the GWMP Bridge over Pimmit Run. Repairs include stabilizing the stream bank of the upstream approach to the northern bridge pier to prevent further erosion, protecting the footing of the bridge pier from further erosion and scour, and providing river training techniques, a process to influence the stream channel to migrate away from the eroding stream bank. Other miscellaneous work includes erosion repairs under the bridge caused by the deck drainage scuppers.
Traffic Control / Affects to Public:
The GWMP Bridge over Pimmit Run will be open to traffic at all times. Lane closures may be necessary for equipment and material access to the work site. No lane closures will occur during the standard GWMP Rush Hours of 5:30 am to 10:00 am and 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Other potential affects to the public include the closure of the foot trails under the bridge along Pimmit Run. Portions of the Fort Marcy and/or Turkey Run Parking Areas can be expected to close to allow the Contractor access to the work site as well as equipment and material storage.
Design/Construction Schedule:
This project is currently under design and tentatively scheduled for award in Fall of 2007. Construction is expected to begin in Winter 2007/Spring 2008.
