General Project Description
The project consists of the rehabilitation of approximately 0.9 miles of Constitution Avenue between 15th and 23rd Streets NW. Work includes re-constructing sections of roadway, replacement of the storm drainage system, granite curb installation, lighting replacement and new sidewalks on both sides of Constitution Avenue. Some large trees will be removed during this project.
The project will result in improved road safety on one of the most-heavily thoroughfares in Washington, D.C.
Traffic Control / Affects to Public:
Reconstruction work will take place overnight, on weekends, but also during daytime, weekday hours. Traffic delays are expected. Motorists and pedestrians will be notified of lane closures through the use of construction signs and variable message boards, which will be posted during the entire construction process.
Construction should proceed starting at 23rd Street moving to 15th Street.
Work may occur during the day, nights and weekends, or at times, 24 hours a day. The public may encounter four lanes closed in one block sections during rehabilitation. Work may proceed during the rush hours, provided no more than four lanes are closed.
Design/Construction Schedule:
This project was awarded on February 25, 2010. Major construction is scheduled to begin April 11, 2011. Expected completion is spring 2012.
