Steel-Backed Timber Guardrail
The system consists of a wood rail backed with a steel plate and
supported on timber posts. The steel plate provides the needed tensile
strength to the system. The wood members provide a more rustic apperance
than the steel and concrete normally used in barriers. This railing is
often specified for use along roads under the jurisdiction of the National
Park Service.
