     Foothills Parkway Roadway Reconstruction Project (US 441 - Gatlinburg Spur) – FOOT 15A32

Work from May 4, 2008, to May 10, 2008

  • Repairing drainage structures on the river side of the southbound lanes
  • Replacing guardrail in the northbound lanes just past the Huskey Grove Road exit
  • Widening the entrance road to the Gatlinburg Welcome Center
Traffic Control

  • There will be a single lane closure at the entrance to the Gatlinburg Welcome Center
  • Possible single lane closures for repair of drainage structures in the southbound lanes
  • There will be a single lane closure in northbound lanes just past Huskey Grove Road exit
General Project Description

The National Park Service in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration – Eastern Federal Lands Highway Division has started the rehabilitation of the Gatlinburg Spur of the Foothills Parkway (US 441) between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, including roadside pullouts and side roads. Improvements include milling and overlay of existing pavement, and repairing structurally deficient pavement sections on the 4.6 miles of the Northbound and Southbound Spur Road; overlay of the connecting road aprons and pull offs; shoulder construction/repair; minor grade change of the Southbound lanes at the Husky Grove Bridge; minor reconfiguration of the Spur Road/King Branch Intersection; drainage chase work within the tunnel; repairing of the existing tunnel lighting system; guardrail repair, replacement and installation of new guardrail; slide area scaling and debris removal; pipe rehabilitation; repointing stone masonry; overlay of existing paved waterways; repairing damaged bridge girders; replacement of traffic signs, pavement markings, traffic control and other work.

Construction began on November 5, 2007, and is expected to be complete in March of 2009.

The work will require various temporary single lane closures throughout the entirety of the project. Please refer to the above traffic control section for weekly details.
